If BBB accreditation matters, check the exact company profile and service market: BBB listings can be entity-specific, and accreditation is not a service guarantee.

Why people look for a LawnStarter alternative.

You may prefer another service if you want competing provider bids, want to choose a specific provider, or need a specialist treatment that is not part of your local LawnStarter offer.

You don't choose your provider.

LawnStarter assigns one. If you want to compare people, see their offers side by side, and pick, that's not how it works.

Different price models.

Some services show an online estimate, some match you to a provider, and others collect competing bids. Compare the total quote and written scope for your address.

Support when something goes wrong.

Reviews and BBB profiles change over time and can reflect different entities or customer samples, so this comparison does not treat a single review score as a measure of overall service quality. Review the current terms and recent customer feedback for your area before booking.

None of that makes it a bad choice.

It makes it a specific choice — fast, wide, and assigned. If that's not what you want, the alternatives below split by what they do differently.

1. Lawnsy: choose your provider in Metro Detroit, with the price agreed before work.

Both the homeowner and provider Android apps are currently available on Google Play. The website offers iOS updates rather than listing iOS apps as available. Lawnsy is positioned for Metro Detroit, and provider availability varies by area.

How it works: two ways, both book with the provider. Find a provider and book directly, or post a custom job and compare offers. Providers send a price, scope, and appointment offer. You choose who to book.

You pay the provider directly. Lawnsy does not collect or hold customer payments in this release; the payment method is arranged between the customer and provider. There is also no guaranteed price: providers set their own prices, and they may add a surcharge for an overgrown lawn. What Lawnsy does instead is show you the price and scope before work starts: the provider sends a price, scope, and appointment offer in the app plus a photo upload at booking so the provider sees the lawn beforehand, and reviews after.

Services shown on Lawnsy’s website include lawn care, gardening, weed removal, and snow removal; provider availability varies by area.

Pros

You choose the provider. You see the provider's price and scope before work starts, with a booking photo so the provider sees the lawn beforehand. You pay the provider directly.

Cons — honestly

Lawnsy is positioned for Metro Detroit, with local provider availability varying by area; it is not a nationwide marketplace. Both Android apps are on Google Play, while the site directs iOS users to updates. The site lists four service categories, not LawnStarter’s much broader catalog.

Pricing: Providers set their own prices. No Lawnsy price list to quote here, and I won't invent one. Expect the same drivers as everywhere else: yard size, grass length, and frequency.

Ideal for: A Metro Detroit homeowner who wants to pick their person, see the price and scope first, and pay them directly.

Download the Android app from Google Play or check Lawnsy’s app page for current options

2. GreenPal: compare bids nationwide.

GreenPal is the closest model to Lawnsy's posted-job side, at national scale. You post your lawn, local pros bid on it, and you pick. GreenPal says customers typically receive up to five bids within 24 hours; the number and timing depend on provider responses.

Real price competition means comparing offers for the same lawn. GreenPal's vendor terms describe a 5% platform fee when a completed service is paid successfully through GreenPal; card-processing fees are separate.

Bidding gives you a property-specific offer only after a provider responds. Compare the price, scope, and provider profile yourself; there is no instant fixed quote.

GreenPal does not publish one standard customer mowing price in the sources cited here. Bids vary by lawn and provider, so compare the offers for your address rather than treating a national range as a quote.

Ideal for: A price-focused homeowner who wants to compare bids and is willing to vet the provider themselves.

Bottom line: The pick if you want to compare competing provider offers.

3. Lawn Love: BBB-accredited booking.

Lawn Love is LawnStarter's sister company — LawnStarter acquired it in 2021. They share vetting and pricing mechanics, so treat them as two storefronts for a similar system, not two fully independent alternatives. The real differences are geography and accreditation.

Lawn Love’s San Diego BBB profile currently lists accreditation and an A+ rating. Check the profile details for the relevant business entity and market.

Lawn Love offers an address-based online quote, but its service availability and final price are location-specific.

Lawn Love’s November 2026 mowing-cost guide reports $46–$75 as a typical national range and $60 as its average, based on its own data. Its pricing page advertises mowing from $29. The actual quote depends on the address, lawn size, and condition.

Ideal for: A homeowner who wants LawnStarter-style instant booking, but with BBB accreditation behind it.

Bottom line: Pick Lawn Love over LawnStarter mainly for the accreditation and for snow in northern markets — otherwise, check which one has stronger coverage at your ZIP code.

4. LawnGuru: same-day or next-day booking.

LawnGuru supports one-time ASAP or future-date mowing. Its support page says the first mow is typically completed within 48 hours after a provider accepts the request; timing depends on provider availability and location.

Pros: You can see a local price in the app before confirming and request a one-time service. Availability and completion timing depend on provider acceptance and location.

Cons: LawnGuru availability depends on your location, provider availability, and weather. Review the local quote and the schedule offered in the app before confirming.

Pricing: LawnGuru says its base mowing rate varies with local demand and provider availability, then increases by property size. It directs customers to enter their address in the app for a current quote.

Ideal for: A homeowner who needs a mow quickly and doesn't want to wait for bids.

Bottom line: A fit when you want an ASAP request, subject to provider acceptance and availability.

5. Thumbtack / Angi: a one-off job, or a job beyond mowing.

Thumbtack and Angi aren't lawn-care apps. They're general home-services marketplaces where lawn care is one category among many. That breadth is the point — and the tradeoff.

Pros: Widest range of jobs in one place. Quote-based, so you can shop around before hiring. Useful for a one-time or unusual job a lawn-only app doesn't cover.

Cons: There is no single reliable price range for both marketplaces because pricing depends on the job and provider. Compare the written scope, price, reviews, insurance, and cancellation terms before hiring.

Pricing: Neither marketplace publishes one standard price covering all lawn jobs; request a current quote for the specific work.

Ideal for: A one-time job, or a homeowner who wants one marketplace for lawn care and other home work.

Bottom line: The pick if your job doesn't fit neatly into a mowing app.

6. TruGreen: if you don't need mowing at all.

TruGreen is often listed next to LawnStarter, but it is a different service: treatments such as fertilization and weed control, not mowing, according to its FAQ.

TruGreen offers lawn treatment programs, with services varying by market.

TruGreen says it offers fertilization, weed control, aeration, overseeding, and other lawn treatments, but not mowing. Services and treatment schedules vary by market, so a separate mowing provider may be needed.

Pricing: Plan-based, varies by yard size and program. Get a quote for your lawn — there's no meaningful per-visit mowing price to compare.

Ideal for: A homeowner who already has a mower, or mows themselves, and wants the treatments handled.

Bottom line: Don't compare TruGreen to LawnStarter on mowing price. Compare it if treatments are the job.

Bottom line: Metro Detroit residents who want to choose their provider can check the app for local availability; both Android apps are on Google Play, and the site offers iOS updates.

Keep LawnStarter if…

Keep LawnStarter if you need service outside Metro Detroit today, if you want about 30 services in one account, or if an instant quote and a re-do or refund guarantee matter more than choosing the provider yourself. Lawnsy doesn't beat it on any of those today, and I won't pretend it does. The honest case for Lawnsy is narrower: choose your provider, agree the price and scope before work, pay them directly — in Metro Detroit, with local provider availability varying by area.

Why I'm writing this.

I'm building Lawnsy in the open, and pricing honesty is the foundation of it. When a homeowner can't tell whether $60 is fair or a rip-off, everybody loses except whoever profits from the confusion. That starts with articles like this one — real numbers, no spin — and continues into how the app itself shows its work: a price and scope agreed before work, a booking photo so the provider sees the lawn, and reviews as reputation.

Pricing references were checked November 6, 2026. Figures are not directly comparable: some are provider estimates, some are starting prices, and some services show only property-specific quotes or bids. Confirm current price, scope, and availability before booking.
